Obituary for Jennifer G Rowe

HOPE - Jennifer Gooch Rowe passed away unexpectedly at her home in South Hope, Maine on Friday, October 3rd at the age of 65. Born in New York City on January 4th, 1943 to Herrick and Erica Johanna Gooch, Jennifer grew up on Nantucket Island, a locale for which she maintained a lifelong affinity, and where she was affectionately known as a tomboy and daredevil.
All who knew her remember the sanctuary she created at her home in South Hope, in which the lush interior, brimming with all manner of plants and orchids, her most recent passion, provided balance to the exquisite surrounding gardens that emerged naturally from the rocks, ledges and hollows of an old blueberry field.
She is mourned by her husband, Andy Rowe, and his family; her son and daughter-in law, Jason and Heather Hearst, and their child, her cherished granddaughter, Tegwyn; and her German Shepherds, Boolean and Simba. Her loss is also deeply felt by her siblings, John Gooch of Palm Beach, Florida; Barbara Curtis of Unionville, Pennsylvania; William Curtis of Nantucket, Massachusetts; and their families and numerous nieces and nephews. Her friends from the knitting circle, the Riley School community and all those who knew her will miss her certain and quiet friendship, her willing ear and her loyal support. Her passing will also be noticed by the multitude of birds that flocked to her feeders and the chipmunks, foxes, deer and turkeys, which partook of her largesse.
A celebration in memory of Jennifer's life will be held Friday, October 10th at 2 PM in her gardens at 53 Old Lane in Hope, Maine. All who knew and loved her are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, Maine 04841.
