Obituary for Harvey Wilson "Hap" Robinson

Harvey Wilson "Hap" Robinson
SOUTH THOMASTON - Harvey ‘Hap’ Wilson Robinson, 73, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 11, 1940 at Hall’s Quarry, Southwest Harbor, he was the son of Ira and Helen Moore Robinson.

Hap spent his early working years at the Thorndike Hotel where he met Dick Curliss who was his inspiration for his love of country music and the inspiration behind his formation of ‘The Seacoast Ramblers’ - a country western band in which he was singer and lead guitar player. The Seacoast Ramblers could be heard most weekends at local lounges and VFW halls for Saturday night dances. In his early career he could be heard on the radio with Bob Ellston.

He worked for Camden Tanning Corp. from 1968 - 2000, where he did numerous jobs. After the closing of the tannery, he worked at Pen Bay Medical Center as an escort until his retirement.

He was known for his kindness to all, his quick wit and his smile, which never failed to make you smile back.

His favorite times were gathering friends and family for holidays and summer cook-outs. During any thunderstorms he could be found sitting in ‘his’ chair watching them. The beauty never ceased to amaze him. He also loved sitting on his deck watching the sunrise or sunset. He loved taking cruises and yearly trips to Old Orchard Beach with his wife.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Hap is survived by his wife, Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Small Robinson of South Thomaston; his children, Sheila Whittier of Appleton, Tim Robinson and his wife Angie of Friendship, Sonny Robinson of Leeds, Billie Jo Robinson of Los Angeles, CA, Mary Dorr of South Thomaston, Lewis Bowden of Owls Head, Torie Witham and her husband Sean of Washington, Joe Barboza of Massachusetts; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and siblings, Georgia Ward of Florida, Dona Boynton of Rockland, Chet Robinson and his wife Barbara of Spruce Head with whom he was very close, Bonnie True of Massachusetts and Diana Bennett of St. Albans, as well sister-in-law, Mary Chase and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 10th at Coughlin Memorial Cemetery, Rankin Street, Rockland. The Reverend Stephen White will officiate.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
