A long, wonderful friendship

Fred and I met at The University of Massachusetts veterans campus at Ft. Devens,Ayer, Ma. We sang in the glee club together.Later we all moved to the Amherst campus. We continued to sing together. Fred had a great tenor voice and played really great jazz on the piano. My wife Mary met Helen, attended their beautiful wedding and kept in touch after graduation. Fred and Helen became God Parents to our two children. We visited them often in North Reading and later on North Haven. On campus Fred and I both drove 1939 Ford convertibles. His a two door with a rumble seat, mine a four door convertible sedan. Those were part of the ties that bound our friendship together. We loved our visits to North Haven, especially when Helen's father, Mr. Mitchell was there as only then would Fred allow a lobster in the house. Fred was my last connection with UMass '50. We miss him greatly.
