Obituary for Harold E. Wooster

Harold E.  Wooster
WARREN – Harold E. Wooster, 82, husband of Irene Pettee Wooster, died surrounded by his family at his home December 8, 2011, after a long illness.

Born in St. George, April 28, 1929, he was the son of George W. and Mary Sampson Wooster. He attended local schools.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Throughout his career, Harold worked as a Union steel worker with the Laborers International Union of North America.

Having raised a family of 12 children; in 1989 Harold met a friend of earlier years, who had just lost her husband. For more than 21 years, he enjoyed companionship with that friend, Irene Pettee and in 2010, they were thrilled to be united in marriage. Over the years, they blended families and Harold became a loving father figure to Irene’s six children.

Harold and Irene enjoyed traveling from Maine to Florida and Canada as well.

Never able to sit still, Harold’s family often referred to him as the ‘Energizer Bunny’. He loved working outside, keeping his gardens and lawns in immaculate condition. His family said that Harold was always kind and gentle, and that he was always ready to help any one who needed a hand. That included helping his step-children whenever he could.

‘Teddy’, Harold’s yellow cat, held a special place in his heart.

Other than his parents, Harold was pre-deceased by two brothers. He is survived by beloved wife Irene of Warren; eleven children including, Kathy, Nancy, David, Paula, Cheryl, Thomas, Debra, Diane, Laurie, Robert, Scott and Kelly; six step-children, David E. Pettee and his fiancée Jan Haynes of Hope, Donald W. Pettee of Warren, Robert E. Pettee and his wife Sandra of St. George, Jon A. Pettee and his wife Trish of Richmond, Carol J. Pettee of Rockland, Helen E. Slocomb and her husband Carl of Rockport; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 14. Pastor David Lewis will officiate, Military Honors will conclude the service. Private interment will be in Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Area Interfaith Outreach (AIO) Food Pantry, P.O. Box 113, Rockland, ME 04841.
