Obituary for Richard L. Rodrigue

Richard L.  Rodrigue
WARREN – Richard L. Rodrigue, 64, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor from complications of diabetes.
Born in Augusta, April 17, 1947, he was the son of Lionel D. and Mildred M. Rodrigue. He attended local schools and was a 1966 graduate of Cony High School.
Upon graduating, Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He ultimately served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam and at the time of his honorable discharge, had attained the rank of Sergeant.
Soon after returning to civilian life, he began employment at the Hallowell Post Office. He ultimately worked at other area post offices, before moving to the Rockport Post Office. Richard retired in 2009 as Postmaster of the United States Post Office in Rockport.
He was an active member of Abundant Grace Fellowship in Searsmont and helped in the construction of that fellowship’s new Searsmont edifice. For several years, he sang base with the Down East Barber Shop Chorus. He was an active member of the Mid-Coast Detachment Marine Corps League No. 637, where he enjoyed helping in the ‘Toys for Tot’s’ program. Richard also enjoyed membership in the Camden Lions Club. He was an avid coin collector.
Other than his parents, Richard was pre-deceased by his wife, Marie Reynolds McIntosh, May 10, 2010, a sister Diane Rodrigue, and a son Matthew Rodrigue. He is survived by one son, Steven Rodrigue of Winthrop, his companion, Linda E. Giles of Rockport; his brothers and sisters including Jeanne M. Chase and her husband Timothy of Gardner, Patricia A. Cunningham and her companion Karl Rosell, The Reverend Frank Morin all of Augusta, Tom and Kathy Morin, Bill and Lorraine Morin all of Oakland, John and Cheryl Morin, Dicky and Sally Morin, Mary and Lloyd Quirion all of Winslow, Bobby Morin of Bath, Ann and Bob Densmore of Texas; a special friend whom he considered a grandson, Robert Doak and his wife Tabitha, and their son Wyatt all of Warren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2011, at Abundant Life Fellowship, Rt. 131, Searsmont. Pastor Peter Sheff will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Twelve O’Clock Noon, Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at the Chapel of the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ‘Toys for Tots’, 179 Old County Road, Rockport, ME 04856.
