Obituary for Vittrice Catherine "Vickie" Haskell (Hayes)

ROCKLAND – Vittrice “Vickie” Haskell, 94, died peacefully, Friday, May 14, 2021 at her home in Rockland.

Born in Rockland on April 10, 1927 to Edward M. and Rita M. Hayes. She attended local schools until moving to Portland in 1944.

While roller skating, she met the love of her life John “Bill” William Haskell, Sr. and the two were married on August 10, 1944. Not long after being married, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During that time Vickie moved back home to live with Bill’s parents in Owls Head. After Bill’s honorable discharge from the service, they lived a short time in Rockland before moving to Connecticut, where Bill was employed by Pratt & Whitney. They ultimately made their home in East Windsor, CT, where they raised their five wonderful children.

While raising her children, Vickie was involved with the Girl Scouts as a Troop Leader for many years. She was a very active communicant of Grace Episcopal Church in Broad Brook CT, where she was a member of the Altar Guild, Flower Guild and the first female Acolyte at Grace. She was also a participant on the committee regarding the construction of the new Grace Episcopal Church. Following Bill’s retirement in 1982, they moved back to Midcoast Maine, residing once again in Owls Head. She had been an active member of the St. Peters Episcopal Church since returning.

Many customers at the former Senter Cranes in Rockland will remember Vickie as a helpful salesclerk when she worked there. Others will remember her as a devoted volunteer at Pen Bay Medical Center. She also made some great friends while living at the Methodist Conference Home.

The family would also like to extend special thanks to Vickie’s niece, Ellen Hayes, who was a great help to her while she was living in Rockland.

Vickie was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband, John “Bill” Haskell, Sr.; her son John W. Haskell, Jr. and all six of her siblings. She is survived by her children; Sharon Jepson and her husband David of Glastonbury, CT; Andrea Frez of Windsor, CT; Susan Oliver and her husband David of St. Petersburg, FL; Catherine Morring and her husband Douglas of Fredericksburg VA.; and her granddaughter, Brianna Morring of Richmond, VA.
