Obituary for Syldra Marcol LaPorte (Diehl)

CAMDEN - Syldra Marcol (Diehl) LaPorte, 70, formerly of Thomaston, died suddenly on March 8, 2020 at Windward Gardens in Camden where she had been a resident for many years.

Syldra, known as Silly to her family, was the precious daughter of Charles and Laurae (Windoffer) Diehl, born on August 7, 1949 in Belfast.

Educated in local schools, she graduated from Union High School and went on to earn a Master’s Degree from the University of Maine at Orono, graduating with honors.

She absolutely adored animals of every type, and throughout her life, kept several exotic animals as pets including horses, monkeys, many types of birds, reptiles, rats and mice, cats and dogs, and was able to nurse nearly any wild animal to health.

Silly enjoyed traveling when she could and was a voracious reader as well.

Predeceased by her husband, Stephen LaPorte, whom she was a devoted wife to, and a son, Aaron Sims, Syldra is survived by her son Thomas McGrath and his wife Courtney of Waldoboro; three sisters, Ramona DeLaRosa of Florida; Raechal Martin of New Jersey; Tracy Abdul of Washington; her brother James of Tennessee; cherished “grandmom” to, David Thayer, Baelfire McGrath and Eden McGrath, as well as several nieces, nephews, and her beloved niece Sena Boulware and her husband John of Tenants Harbor.

Services for Silly will be announced on a later date.
