Obituary for Steven James Steeves

OWLS HEAD - Steven James Steeves, 54, passed away untimely on July 27, 2020 after complications from an emergency surgery. He will not be remembered for losing this fight but for his many victories and accomplishments in life.

Steven was a talented and hardworking man starting his restaurant career as a dishwasher with the Samoset Resort at 14 years of age, from then on the kitchen became his kingdom, his life, his passion. He attended the Culinary Institute of America, NY and completed an apprenticeship at the Balsams Resort, NH. While working endless hours doing what he loved, he also started a family that brought to this world his three daughters: Ashley, Autumn and Ammi. His creativity with food, unsurpassed work ethic, and devotion to cooking was infectious, as he mentored many young chefs during his career. Steven along with his wife Rada were fulfilling their dream at "Fresh" restaurant in Camden where Steven showed his vast culinary experience and strove for perfection.

Steven would always find the spark in his heart to do more for all the people that loved him and for his Higher Power. He found many priceless friendships in the Program that had been an important part of his life. While he wouldn't share details with his family for the privacy of his friends, we know that he helped multiple lives and many families.

Steven had clear convictions and a big heart. Those who knew him honored him and loved him for it. He was the salt and butter of any story, of any company, of any gathering and those were his favorite ingredients too! He could create magic out of nothing in the kitchen and in life.

Steven, we hope you are finding peace, we hope you are finally able to run and enjoy the wind, we hope you are having coffee with your best friend George, but we secretly hope you are watching over us too, because your passing has left a bottomless abyss in our hearts. We will miss you always.

Steven was predeceased by his father Richard D. Steeves and grandmother Norma Ames. He is survived by his wife Rada Valkova, daughters, Ashley Steeves and her husband Ryan, Autumn Bellefleur and her husband Dan, Ammi Ancona; grandsons, Ollivander Ancona, Valor Bellefleur; mother Judith Steeves; brothers, Richard Steeves Jr. and his wife Cheryl, Jamie Steeves and his wife Joanne; and a sister Jennifer Gillespie and her husband Uriah.

Steven was laid to rest privately at Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
