Obituary for Stephen Curtis

ROCKLAND — A celebration of life for Betty Curtis, who passed away on Dec. 21,2020; Oliver Curtis, who passed away on February 11, 2022; and Stephen Curtis, who passed away on June 21, 2022, will be held at 1 p.m., Sept. 24, 2022, at 31 New County Road Suite E. in Rockland. A private committal service will occur prior to the celebration of life.

LISBON - Stephen Jeffery Curtis, 65, died unexpectedly at home, following a brief illness, Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Stephen was born in Rockland at Knox Hospital on December 9, 1956, the first child of Oliver and Betty Knowlton Curtis. He grew up in Owls Head in the home his father built.

Educated in local schools, he was a 1975 graduate of Rockland District High School where he was involved in audio/visual, music, Kippy Karnival light crew, the founder and president of the Eddie Driscoll fan club and other activities.

Music was central in his life—he amassed an enormous collection of LPs and CDs. He enthusiastically attended numerous concerts and had a way of obtaining backstage passes. He was known for sharing music with his many friends and family in the form of custom mix tapes, mix CDs, electronics, guitars, concert tickets, and more.
He worked in various occupations including Manassas record store, Fisher Engineering, Time Warner Cable, and more recently as IT for a server in Gardiner.

Stephen is survived by his brother Paul H. Curtis of Owls Head; sister Cynthia E. Malave and her husband Troy of Rockland; many nieces and nephews including, Bea H. Curtis of Portland, Molly E. Curtis of Roanoke, Virginia, Emma L. Hogan of Portland, Chelsea R. Brewer of Orono, Allison R. Hawksley of Clifton, Cody M. Malave of Rockland, Gracen B.L. Malave of Greenbush and Bradey S. Malave of Portsmouth, N.H.; and a grandniece Ryleigh R. Bretton. He was predeceased by his parents Oliver and Betty Curtis and his nephew Samuel E. Curtis. He is greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022. More information to follow.
