CAMDEN - Shirley E. Grant, 92, formerly of Warren passed from this life April 20, 2021 at Windward Gardens in Camden where she had resided for nearly three years. She was born September 21, 1928 in South Thomaston to Chester and Marcia Creamer Grierson.
On April 6, 1946 she married Albert “Checker” Grant. They eventually moved from South Thomaston to Rockland where they resided for many years before moving to Warren. Checker died May 2, 1994.
Always one to help provide for her family, Shirley worked a number of places over the years including Carl Perry’s lunch counter, Van Baalen, Newberry’s lunch counter, as a private caregiver and she most enjoyed her years at The Talbot Home, performing a variety of tasks. She thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her boss there, Brenda Walsh.
Shirley always looked forward to gathering with her family and for many years hosted Christmas Eve gatherings at her home. She loved to go for car rides and eat at restaurants, especially with her friend, Ercell Kenney with whom she enjoyed many adventures.
Besides her parents, Shirley is predeceased by her son Linwood; son-in-law Ronald Fowles; brothers, Philip, Milton and Roger; sisters, Hester Dennison and Isabel Laramie.
She is survived by sons, Eugene (Elaine) of Friendship, Randall (Sharon) of Warren; daughter Susan Fowles Heal (Robert) of Hope; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; as well as brothers, Gerald and Larry Grierson; sisters, Pauline Dennison, Maxine Libby, Lillian Young, Joan Fowles, Ellen Miller and Sandra Wilkinson; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery, Patterson Mill Road, Warren. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
The family sends its sincere, heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Windward Gardens who kept Shirley safe and so lovingly cared for on Windward Center, even during this pandemic. We appreciate all you do, even risking your health to provide for others. You are truly heroes!
