OWLS HEAD - Shirley B. Anderson of Owls Head, 81 years old, passed very peacefully on December 6 in her home surrounded by her family. Survived by three daughters, Angela Pomerleau and her husband Joe of Port Clyde, Valerie Garrigan and her husband Mike of Owls Head, Holly Trottier and her husband Pete of Kennebunk; two sisters, Belle White of Gardiner, Sandra Mank and her husband Gordon of Rockport; a brother-in-law Arnold “Buzzy” Kinney of Spruce Head; her 2 granddaughters, Caleigh Pollard and her husband Harry IV of York, Sara Trottier of Portland; her great-grandson Harry Pollard, V of York, along with many nieces and nephews throughout the state. She was predeceased by her mother Mary Joy, her father Parker Jackson, and her sister Eleanor Kinney of Spruce Head. Shirley was one of the ‘Jackson girls’, a RDHS graduate class of 1957, and Kippy Karnival Kween. Formerly married to Larry Anderson of Port Clyde, Shirley grew up in the South Thomaston “Keag” and summered on Metinic, where her father lobstered.

Shirley had a stroke on Nov. 20, which was not recoverable. Up until the time of that event, she was fond of visiting friends and family and taking care of them, bringing homemade meals, and visiting those who were homebound. Helping others was her passion and brought her great joy.

Shirley was a stay at home mom living in Port Clyde, Rockland, Owls Head and York, Maine. She later moved to Manchester, NH where she attended college studying literature and psychology. She lived overseas in Holland and Denmark, and then settled in Naples, FL with her daughters and grandchildren. While in Florida she earned a CNA degree, and began providing companionship and home support for clients who coveted her special care during those years. Additional education included a massage therapy degree. She returned to Owls Head to be with her mother, sisters, and daughters in 2004. She continued caring for seniors and providing companionship for many years after returning to Maine.

The family will be honoring her life of love, generosity and grace at 11:30 am on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Peoples United Methodist Church, 13 Chapel Street, South Thomaston. Flowers are gratefully accepted.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
