Obituary for Robin Graham Mahoney

ROCKPORT - Robin A Mahoney passed away suddenly and unexpected of natural causes, Friday, January 6, 2023. Robin had suffered with declining health for the past 10 years and lost her battle with COPD.

Born in Bangor, May 26, 1954, she was the daughter of Richard Langdon and Phyllis Mae Dudley Graham. She attended schools in Bangor and moved to Rockland at age 6 when her mother remarried. She attended Rockland schools and graduated from Rockland District High School in 1972. Upon graduation Robin began her working career. Robin met her soulmate, Stephen Mahoney, around this time and they were married on July 7, 1973.

Robin and Steve welcomed their son Ryan Christopher Mahoney into the world on December 1, 1973. They lived in Thomaston for a short time before building their home in Rockport in April of 1974, living there to the present day. Robin quickly became the neighborhood Nanny, watching over and babysitting the neighborhood children while their parents worked. The house was a safe haven and hangout for many years and lasting relationships were made with those children. On November 22, 1978 Robin and Steve welcomed their 2nd son Daryn Scott Mahoney into the world.

Robin continued working at New England telephone until its closure in 1982. At that time she began her second career as a private elderly care worker for many people in the local area. She continued this work until 1995 when she had to stop because of back injuries. Robin then started her third and final career as an antique dealer which she continued up to her passing. She loved nothing more than buying and selling and was a staple at the Montsweag Flea Market, many auction houses and of course her greatest love, yard sales.

Robin was a quiet person and never felt comfortable as the center of attention. She loved people and loved life. Her most fond memories were taking care of her first grandchild, Alana Rose Mahoney so her parents could work. She and her husband Steve had Alana all week for several years and it was truly Robin’s happiest time. Alana would say, I made Nanny laugh. What a ham she was.

Robin was predeceased by her father Richard L. Graham Sr.; her mother Phyllis Mae Graham Perry; her brother Richard L. Graham Jr.; her son Daryn S. Mahoney; her stepfather Morris Perry; and her step-sister Sonya Perry. She is survived by her husband Steve Mahoney; her son Ryan C. Mahoney; her granddaughter Alana Rose Mahoney; her grandson Max Alexander Mahoney; her brother Robert Graham and her step-sister Cindy Kilgore as well as several nieces and a nephew.

Robin always expressed gratitude to her ‘adopted sister and brother’ and caregivers, Teddi and Ted Silva, for their support and guidance during the last 10 years. Their daily contact made it easier for her day to day. Her family also expressed a special ‘Thank You’ to her special neighbors, Dr. Jeff and Lydia Landfair as well as Kathy and Alan Sigle for being such great neighbors in ways they will never know. Lastly she would want her best friends, Jackie Lawrence, Ingrid Perry and Margie Gerrish to know that although they lost contact over the years, she never forgot them and the many memories they shared. She loved you girls.

Per her wishes Robin’s family will remember her life privately. Donations may be made in her name to the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, Maine 04841. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland.
