Obituary for Robert William Cuthbertson Jr.
CAMDEN - Robert “Bob” William Cuthbertson Jr., 90, went home to be with Jesus on March 24, 2020. He passed away peacefully at his home in Camden with his beloved wife Glenice by his side.
Born March 17, 1930, in Thomaston, to Robert W. and Marie R. (Nadeau) Cuthbertson, he was educated in local schools.
As a teenager Bob attended the Rockland Nazarene Church, where he was an usher, and it was there he met the love of his life, Glenice Munro.
Before going on to serve his Country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1947, he had one thing that he felt he
needed to do, show his dear love that she was the one that he wanted to come home to.
So, Bob worked in the bean fields and used his entire paycheck to buy an engagement ring for his sweetie. While on furlough, Bob and Glenice got married on May 22, 1948. He then continued on active duty, serving in communications aboard the Light Cruiser, U.S.S. Fargo (CL-106), before being honorably discharged in January of 1950.
After being blessed with four children of their own, they adopted three more they would also call their own.
In 1965 they felt the call of God on their lives to become foster parents. Over the years, they selflessly gave extra love, and a temporary home to over 50 infants and children that were placed in their care.
Bob and Glenice had a full and happy life of nearly 72 years together, living all but their last four years in Rockland and Thomaston.
Bob was always a hard-working man and never called in sick. He worked at several grocery stores before going to work at the former Martin Marietta Cement Plant, in Thomaston, where he worked for 30 years as a machine maintenance technician.
He also worked at a gas station, followed by a job in the kitchen at Pen Bay Medical Center before retiring in 1992.
Bob's days were filled with working, then coming home to his family. Many evenings you would find him making sure the lawn was neatly mowed or pulling fresh veggies out of his garden and sharing them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sharpening knives, and watching any kind of sports.
One of the things he loved most was learning more about his Lord. He attended Thomaston Assembly of God Church where he was a lifetime member and served as an usher. Being a very punctual man, he would always arrive early where he would welcome each person with a handshake, a smile, and a bulletin.
Bob was a man of great integrity, strength, and loyalty. He was a man of few words, but when he did speak, it was real, and it was important!
His family was always his first priority and he genuinely loved them and others. He was always quick to forgive, and he never held a grudge.
The last few years of his life were filled with doing his favorite things. Talking with, and seeing his Children, Grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren, going to Church, eating out, taking long rides on back and unfamiliar roads, and watching television of which his favorite shows were game shows, sports, and of course the Boston Red Sox!
Bob’s last few days were spent being comforted by looking at his wife sitting beside him, holding her hand, and telling her how much he loved her.
Predeceased by his parents, his brother Albert Cuthbertson, his sister Gladys Parker, and his son-in-law Richard Mank, he is survived by his wife, Glenice Cuthbertson, of Camden; his daughters, Adelle Newcomb and her husband Delmar of Thomaston; Jackie Mank of Camden; Janet Wardwell of Frankfort; Jan Cuthbertson of Camden; Faith Cran and her husband Wayne of Arizona; his sons, Robert Cuthbertson III and his wife Deana of California; Jon Cuthbertson and his wife Heather of Corinth; his sister, Jean Morey of Augusta;
Grandchildren: Michael Newcomb, Randy Mank, Darrell Mank, Angel Lee Downing, Joey Wardwell, Robert Cuthbertson IV, Aaron Cuthbertson, Angel Regalado, Mark McLain, Aliesha Brann, Brandon Price, and Alexis Price.
Step-Grandchildren: Corey and Tiffany.
29 Great Grandchildren (with 2 more on the way); 9 Step Grandchildren. 1 Great Great Grandchild. 3 Step-Great Great Grandchildren. and many nieces and nephews, some of which were like his second children.
Bob will be missed dearly by all of his family, but never forgotten! We have many memories in our thoughts and in our hearts of which some will be shared at a Celebration of Life Service to be held at a later date, and will be announced.
