Obituary for Rebecca Ann "Becky" Gamage

ROCKLAND – On April 1st, 1963, Rebecca Ann ‘Becky’ Gamage, was born at the Knox Hospital, ready to start her legacy. Becky was born with Spina-Bifida and the doctors were sure she would not survive. Becky however had other plans. Her heart and soul were larger than you can imagine, and with all odds against her, she fought and survived.

Throughout her 56 years of life Becky overcame many obstacles and beat the odds of survival numerous times. She was larger than life and lit up a room with her smile. Everyone who was ever blessed enough to have met her, loved her. It took a village and one amazing mother and family to give her the wonderful life she had, even though it was always against the odds. She was a fighter; she was a miracle; she was her family’s shining star.

After three weeks of fighting yet another illness, God decided on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 7:57 pm she was to come home to Him and be free of pain and suffering. Becky was finally able to ride the bicycle she never could!
Becky was the daughter of Carl and Barbara Grover Gamage. Educated locally, she attended Rockland District High School, graduating in 1984 with her baby sister Gretchen.

As a young girl, Becky took great joy in attending Pine Tree Camp every summer. Summers spent in New Jersey at her eldest sister, Edna’s home were some of her favorite memories.

Even with the difficulties Becky was handed in life, she never complained. Her smile could light up a room, and she did everything she could to brighten other people’s lives. She kept busy with knitting, completing many puzzles and kept her mind sharp with crossword puzzles. Becky’s life line was her iPad, and she enjoyed playing games like bingo and solitaire. When the Hyssongs were performing at the Littlefield Baptist Church, Becky was right there, praising and singing with them. A life-long Kenny Rogers fan, she delighted in attending several concerts where she was blessed with front row seats. Her family remembers how happy she was when he reached out and touched her hand on the way by.
Becky’s larger than life personality and loving heart will be missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her beloved mother Barbara Allen and her step-father Fred S. Allen; Becky is survived by her siblings, Edna Stevens and her husband Alfie of Tuckerton, NJ, Gary Gamage and his wife Bonnie of Rockland, Gail Willey and her husband Jerry of Union, Craig Gamage and his wife Vicki of Warren, David Gamage and his wife Sharon of Woolwich, Karen Spearin of Rockland, Gretchen Drake and her husband Scott of Lincolnville; 15 nephews and two nieces; as well as two special family friends, Jean Foley and Angie Smith both of Rockland.
