Obituary

ROCKLAND — It is with the saddest of hearts we announce the passing of Raymond (Ray) Francis Merrifield May 13, 2020, to his battle with addiction. He was a good man with a kind soul and big heart. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his children, Maia and Francis.

Raymond was born on April 5, 1982, to Fred Merrifield and Gretchen Barratt. He was brother to John and beloved father to Maia Celest and Francis Quintin Merrifield. His children meant the world to him and he loved them fiercely and proudly. He was raised in Hope and educated in the Hope and Camden schools.

Raymond had many different jobs through the years and at the time of his passing, he worked at Park Street Grille. Raymond was passionate about music and loved playing his guitar, building onto his extensive record collection and going to concerts with his friends. Raymond was also a talented writer and had written many short stories through the years. He loved to read and was currently in the middle of the “Outlander” series. Despite all his interests, the thing he loved most in this world was spending time with his children. They were his everything.

Raymond was predeceased by paternal grandfather, Laurence “Red” Merrifield (Poppy); great- grandfather, Raymond Turner (Gramp); uncle, Laurence D. (Larry) Merrifield; maternal grandmother, Doris Mae Frye (Mamie); and grandfather, Francis S Frye (Papa).

He is survived by his parents, father, Fred Merrifield, mother, Gretchen Barratt and stepfather, Richard Barratt; children, Maia and Francis; brother, John and his wife, Christina and their two kids, Brady and Olivia; paternal grandmother, Alice Merrifield Boody; and his girlfriend, Carrie. He is also survived by uncle, Kenny Merrifield; Craig Merrifield and wife, Ruth; Randy Merrifield and wife, Claudia; aunt, Tina Merrifield; and uncle, Ken Boody; as well as many cousins and too many friends to name.

Our broken hearts will forever feel the loss and emptiness of his absence, but we will always cherish the good memories and times we have spent together. There will be a memorial/remembrance of life for Raymond on June 19, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Burpee Carpenter and Hutchins in Rockland. Family will have their own memorial for Ray and he will be brought to his final resting place at a later date and private location.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made by called into a savings account for Maia Celest Merrifield and Francis Quintin Merrifield at Camden National Bank 1-800-860-8821 or call your local branch.
