Obituary for Nadine D. Smith

WARREN - Nadine Deliah King Smith, 80, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Windward Gardens in Camden, with her family at her side.
Born in Rockland, August 6, 1929, she was the daughter of Augustus B. and Eunice E. Belyea King. She was educated in Rockland schools.
As a single mother, Nadine raised her four children while working at Forty Fathoms Seafood in Rockland. In her role as a mother and homemaker, she did much of the maintenance of her home, and at one time, even shingled her own roof. She also often made clothing for her children.
During the 1950s and 60s, she served as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader.
October 5, 1966, she married Donald C. Smith in Rockland. He died in 1995.
In 1979, Nadine and Don moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, where she worked as a clerk in the insurance department with the Clerk of Courts.
She enjoyed handcrafts, walking, bicycling, bowling, traveling and reading.
Other than her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her son David A. Holsipple in 1975, and her siblings, Eunice, Wilbur, Walter, George, Geneva, Lawrence, Orrin, Mildred and Ruth. Nadine is survived by three daughters, Ruth Holsipple Preble and her husband Mitchell of Bucksport, Deborah A. Holsipple Watson of Warren, Elizabeth A. Holsipple MacDougall of Thomaston, nine grandchildren, Gretchen, Aaron, Michelle, Courtney, Robbi, Christopher, Rebekah, Zachary and Elijah; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday. The Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Interment will follow in the Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland.
