Obituary for Mildred "Carlene" Willey

WALDOBORO – Mildred ‘Carlene’ Willey, 82, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness, Saturday, June 4, 2022.

Born in Rockland, August 17, 1939, she was the daughter of Harvey and Clara Thompson Curtis. Carlene was raised in Rockland and attended Rockland High School.

On April 8, 1955 she married Alphonso Willey, Jr. in Rockland. Together they made their home in Port Clyde for many years. A caregiver and homemaker at heart, Carlene did whatever it took to care for and support her family. She was a tremendous baker, and worked baking pies for the Dip Net Restaurant. For many years she and her family made Christmas wreaths, as well as picked strawberries and shrimp.

Carlene’s door was always open and she lovingly welcomed anyone in need. Her open door policy also came with a full table of food and she generously shared whatever she had with anyone who needed it.

She loved playing cards, especially poker and cribbage and she was quite competitive. She was always up for a ‘road trip’ with her daughter.

Known for most of her life as Carlene, she also had many different ‘handles’. She would answer to any of the following, Mom, Nan, Gram, Auntie, Tata, Nannie-Nannie and on the CB Radio as ‘Pinch Penny.’
She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Alphonso ‘Tadpole’ Willey, Jr.; her son Richard ‘Dickie’ Willey; all of her siblings, Harry, Donald ‘Donk’ and John Curtis, Gertrude ‘Gert’ Smith; Carlene is survived by her children, Russell D. Willey and his wife Elaine of New Bedford, MA, Tammy L. Michaud and her significant other Charles Mansfield of Warren, Marla J. Jarvis and her husband Chris of Warren; her seven grandchildren, Crystal, Falon and her wife Candace, Lisa, Stephen, Shelby and her significant other Frankie, Ryan, Paige; five great-grandchildren, Faith, Hunter, Zoey, Olivia, Mason and Gage; her two best friends, Middy Eaton and Lois Benner; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m., with a brief memorial service at 12:00 (Noon) Monday, June 20, 2022 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street Rockland.
