Obituary for Margaret Elizabeth Mills

WARREN – Margaret W. ‘Maggie’ Mills, 90, died peacefully at her home, with her loving son and daughter-in-law at her side, Saturday, March 28, 2020.

Born in Thomaston, November 2, 1929, she was the daughter of Albert H. and Mildred Williamson Wallace.
At the age of three Maggie moved to Rockland with her parents. Here she attended Rockland High School, graduating with the Class of 1949. While in high school, Maggie worked at J. J. Newbury’s after school and on the weekends. After graduation she went to work there in the office as a bookkeeper.

Over the years she held other bookkeeping positions at Grants Dairy and later Achorn’s Department Store in Camden for eleven years. Maggie later retired from Peoples Heritage Bank, Thomaston Branch, now T.D. Bank, in 1991 after eleven years of employment. After retiring, Maggie also served as the bookkeeper for her son’s construction business.

On May 17, 1968 Maggie married Lewis ‘Arthur’ Mills, Sr. Together they enjoyed 43 years of marriage. In September of 1969 Maggie and Art moved to their home in Warren.

A former member of First Baptist Church of Rockland, she most recently attended Second Congregational Church of Warren.

Family was very important to Maggie. She greatly enjoyed many family cookouts and other special gatherings with family and friends. Weekly Beano games were another favorite pastime. She looked forward each September to going to the New England State Expo in Springfield, Mass and spending a fun weekend with her son and daughter-in-law. Her friends and ‘church family’ were a constant support to her both before and during her illness and Maggie’s family will be forever grateful for their thoughtfulness and the part they played, filling the void left after her husband’s passing.

Maggie will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
