Obituary for Lisa Carlson

ROCKLAND – Lisa E. Carlson, 74, passed away peacefully at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington on Thursday, October 10, 2019 with her loving and devoted son Jay, his partner Joe, and her committed, loving partner Bob Banach by her side.

Born Lisa Elaine Small on July 28, 1945 in Rockland. She was educated in local schools and received
her Bachelors Degree from the University of Maine in 1985.

Being of quick wit in and out of the workplace, she often stated that the only ass she ever kissed in her life was her son Jay and he was a baby. Lisa channeled her love and devotion into raising Jay, her only son.

Lisa worked as a Project Manager for the United States Coast Guard’s exchange system and enjoyed a career that lasted 37 years. For several years she managed the exchange at the Coast Guard Station here in Rockland. After several promotions throughout the years she retired as their Deputy Director of Operations. Lisa was known to do everything she could possibly do for every U. S. Coast Guard member that needed her help, even if it cut into her personal time. She always felt that U. S. Coast Guard members deserved the very best she had to give every day for putting themselves in harm’s way, risking their own lives to save others.

Lisa once had a young woman tell her after hurricane Katrina that when you are in trouble seeing the Coast Guard men and women was the best feeling in the world. They knew they were saved.

She enjoyed volunteering for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and was an active volunteer at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Chesapeake, VA.

Lisa will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.

Predeceased by her parents, Lisa is survived by her son Jay Carlson and his partner Joe Williams of Burlington VT; her partner Bob Banach of Chesapeake VA; her close friend (who was more of a sister than a friend) Sheila Witham and her husband Elmer of Owls Head; loving cousins Elizabeth Williams, Mary McCulsey, and Sylvia Fowles. Special friends James Agar, Mark and Charlotte Carscallen, Dana Jones, Tina Arey, and Sharon Grisham.

Those who wish may make memorial donations to either, American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478
Oklahoma City, OK 73123, or the Dana Farber Cancer Research Center, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02115.

Friends and family are invited to visit from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland.
