Obituary for Kimberly Ann Curtis

OWL’S HEAD- Kimberly Ann Curtis, 50, beloved daughter, mother, sister, partner and friend to many, left this world too soon, Thursday, December 10th, 2020. Born in Camden, March 18th, 1970, she was one of four children born to Ed and Carol Curtis.

Kimmi was raised in Midcoast Maine, where she attended the Owl’s Head Central School and Rockland District Junior High. She graduated from Rockland District High School in 1988, and after went on to live quite an adventurous life.

She moved to Islesboro, where she gave birth to her only child, Silas Babbidge, before moving back to the mainland. Kimmi and her best friend, Chrissy Nickles, then built their own lobster boat, and went on to become one of the only woman-run commercial fishing boats in Maine. They made quite the team and quite the impression out on the water. What else would you expect from a boat named the “Double Trouble”? She worked various other jobs as a landscaper and as a cook at the Wayfarer and the Owl’s Head General Store.

When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed the company of friends and family, making many wonderful memories throughout her lifetime. To say she was the life of the party is an understatement. Kimmi had the ability to light up even the darkest of places with her quick wit and booming laughter. She was a fixer, and the “mom” to all who knew her. She was the one everyone turned to for advice, always providing a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. Her words of wisdom have turned around the lives of many people. She was strong, silly, spiritual, compassionate, charismatic and competitive; her brother fondly remembers her often winning a round of golf, game of Scrabble, or a word search race. Her love of reading made her one of the best Jeopardy contestants around. Some of her other passions included cooking, writing, story-telling, and her unwavering faith in God. But most of all, she had a passion for loving, laughing and peach Twisted Tea.
She spent her later years with the love of her life, Michael “Spike” Williams, and welcomed his daughters as if they were her own. Kimmi and Spike traveled often for his work, spending many hours in a car blasting classic rock, joking around, and driving too fast.

Predeceased by her mother Carol Curtis, Kimmi is survived by her father, Edwin Curtis, and his wife Shelley of Florida; her son Silas Babbidge and his girlfriend Devan Landry of Islesboro; her partner Spike Williams of Owl’s Head; her siblings, Kelli Curtis of Owl’s Head, Jeff Curtis of Rockland, and Jamie Curtis of Thomaston; Spike’s daughters, Taryn Williams of Owl’s Head and Morgan Williams of Tenant’s Harbor; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as too many friends to count.

A celebration of Kimmi’s life will be announced in the spring of 2021.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
