Obituary

OWLS HEAD – Kent P. Woodward, 90, died Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.

Born in Sanford, Maine, June 7, 1929, he was the son of William and Margaret P. Wentworth Woodward. During Kent’s infancy, his mother remarried, and he always recognized her husband Harvey Feineaur, Sr. as his father. At a young age, Kent moved with his family to Derry, New Hampshire, where he attended local schools and Pinkerton Academy.

He married Barbara P. Lally, April 29, 1951. A devoted wife and mother, she was always active in her husband’s business endeavors. Mrs. Woodward died December 14, 2000.

Kent left high school during his senior year to enlist in the United States Navy, where he honorably served four years.

Returning to civilian life, he leased and operated a Texaco service station on Rt. 28 in Derry, a few years before purchasing the Burch Street Garage. Kent brought to that business a Rambler dealership as well as International Scouts. During this same time, he earned a private pilot’s license and his son recalled many happy times accompanying his dad for breakfast Fly In’s at airports around New Hampshire.

After selling his New Hampshire business, Kent brought his family to Vinalhaven in 1963. He purchased a large tract of land in the middle of that island, where he built Seal Bay Recreation Center, Vinalhaven Air Park and Harbor View Lanes. After running the bowling lanes many years, he took up lobstering and served as Superintendent of Vinalhaven Water District.

In 1984, Kent and Barbara moved to Owls Head, where he busied himself renovating a house and barn. He also landscaped and beautified the property, planting many trees and gardens. During this same time, he owned and operated a small equipment business, installing driveways and landscaping. As well, he operated R.C. Hobby Barn out of the barn at his home.

As his wife began to experience declining health, Kent and Barbara moved to Rockland, where they not only downsized, but enjoyed the view of Chickawaukie Lake. During this time, they purchased a motorhome in which they enjoyed travel and camping.

Following his wife’s death, Kent found peace and comfort riding his Trike and during that first summer, put more than 9000 miles on that vehicle.

A jack-of-all-trades, Kent could repair or build anything. Never one to sit idle, Kent was always doing or fixing his latest project. Kent always enjoyed his family but during recent days, it was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought a smile to his face.

Other than his wife Barbara, Kent was predeceased by parents including his loving stepfather Harvey Feineaur, Sr, his daughter Diane Ames and his granddaughter Heather Nichols. He is survived by his son Kent D. Woodward and his wife Rose of South Thomaston; his daughter Cheryl Ann Adair of Vinalhaven; two brothers, Harvey Feineaur and his wife Kay of Derry, NH, Timothy Feineaur and his wife Betty of TN; a sister Judy Hammer of Derry, NH; three grandchildren, David Woodward and his wife Tilly, Derrick Woodward and his girlfriend Jessica Walsh all of South Thomaston and Matt Nichols, Heathers husband of Bangor; five great-grandchildren, Aiden, Derrick Jr., Auto, Ruby and Authola, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Spring interment will be in Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Maine Veterans Home, 310 Cony Road, Augusta, ME 04330. To share a memory or story with Kent’s family, please visit their online Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
