Obituary for Rev. Kenneth N. Anderson, Sr.

ROCKLAND - We are saddened to announce that Kenneth (Ken) Nicholas Anderson Sr, 78, of Rockland Maine, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and previous loved ones on February 4, 2021. And yet, despite his struggles with dementia, and other health issues, he remained a dominant force in preaching, singing, writing, and inspiring so many of us with his sermons on life and living for the Lord every day.

He was born to parents Nicholas John and Hattie Marie Lossing Anderson, on April 9, 1942, in Rockland, Maine. Ken spent most of his childhood on the Island of Criehaven with his parents and siblings as a son of a lobsterman. At the age of 10, the family moved to DeLand, FL where his father died October 5, 1952. Later Ken graduated from DeLand High School and married Nancy Elaine Hemby of DeLand, FL on June 2, 1963.

This new chapter of life continued and brought their children, Kirsty Jo Anderson born August 31, 1964, Kenneth Nicholas ‘Nick’ Anderson born January 27, 1969, and Keli Jean Anderson born April 2, 1977. The children were raised in DeLand. The oldest daughter Kirsty then left for college. The family was then moved to Milton, FL where Ken attended Faith Bible College and Theological Seminary where he received his bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degree in Religious Theology. After the loss of his wife Nancy to cancer in 1994, Ken made a long-awaited return trip to Rockland Maine where he met and married Mary Kathleen Gott of Rockland Maine on October 1, 1995. He was Pastor and Sunday School Teacher of local churches and a faithful servant of the Lord until the day he died. Kathy, who survives him, was a great and faithful partner for the last 25 years to both Ken and his family. Thank you, Kathy, for taking such great care of Dad.

Ken is also survived by his children, Kirsty Jo Clemensen, Nick Anderson, Keli Jean Thorn, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and one on the way; his sister Karen Trippe Neal; his brother John Anderson. Ken is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert (Bobby) Anderson.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday May 21, 2021, at the Ridge Cemetery, Port Clyde (Martinsville). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sussman House, Hospice Care, 40 Anchor Drive, Rockport, Maine 04856.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
