Obituary for Keith Hartford Alley

ROCKLAND — Keith H. Alley, aka “Gramps,” passed away Nov. 5, 2022, at the Sussman House in Rockport surrounded by his family after a long battle with kidney disease, and a brief battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s. He was 91.

Keith was born in Southwest Harbor on May 30, 1931, to Merton and Kathryn Alley. He was raised and attended schools in Southwest Harbor. He served in the Navy for nine years, retired from the NSA, and then worked as a guard at the Maine State Prison for nine years, with many odd jobs in between. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1 in Rockland for 32 years, and a lifetime member of the VFW. Keith enjoyed calling “bingo” at both for many years, also dressing up as Santa for Christmas parties. Keith volunteered his time as a DJ at WRFR 93.3 radio until no longer able. He was known for his sense of humor and kind heart.

Keith his survived by his wife of 19 years, Jeanette; daughters Georgia and Lindsey of Rockland and Linda Myers and Betsy Alley of Maryland; son Brian Alley of Florida; sister Marcia Skeate of Columbia Falls; many grandchildren including Owen Curtis, Ethyn and Austyn Winchenbach, of Rockland, Steven Robinson and wife Thia of Camden and Hanna-Lee McSpadden of Freedom; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Maggie Hall of Lincolnville and close friend Steve Tuttle of Owls Head.

Keith was predeceased by his parents; his son Steven; brothers Mervin and Lester; sister Marie; and grandchildren Sam and Hailey Robinson.

At his request, there will be no service.
