Obituary for Karen Lee O'Jala

ROCKLAND - Karen Lee O’Jala, 79, passed away peacefully in her home on October 20, 2023. She was born on February 27, 1944 in Concord, Massachusetts to Henry and Olga Asbjornson.

Karen often spoke fondly of her childhood in Boxford, Massachusetts. She attended and graduated from Masconomet High School then moved on to accomplish her degree at Westbrook College in Maine. She lived most of her life in Warren, Maine before retiring to Rockland.

Karen was most known for her intelligence and her love of animals. She couldn’t pass an animal in need, and during her career as manager of the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League she was known for bringing home strays that they just didn’t have room for.

The highlight of Karen’s life was her role as grandmother. She loved her video chats, listening to their adventures and sharing them with her friends at the Methodist Conference Home where she spent her final years. They will miss her terribly, and she will be a part of their tales for a long time to come.

Karen is pre-deceased by her parents, Henry and Olga (Luhaink) Asbjornson; sister, Karla Asbjornson; her husband, William O’Jala. She is survived by her sister, Karol Asbjornson and her husband Richard Hilderman; son, Geoffrey Allen and his wife Jillian (Stanley) and grandsons, Connor and Colby; her son, Jonathan Allen and his wife Karinna (Russo) and grandsons, Jack and Flynn.

At her request there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center in Camden, ME.
