Obituary for Janice Carleton (Watts)

ROCKPORT – Janice M. Carleton (Watts) 84, loving wife of James R. Carleton Sr. passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Knox Center for Long-Term Care in Rockland.

Born July 17, 1936 in Rockland to Leon Holbrook and Maude Beal. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Camden High School Class of 1955.

In 1956, while Jim was home on leave from the Army, they were married and Janice resided in Camden where he joined her upon discharge.

In 1958, they welcomed their only child, James (Jim) Jr. Janice was a stay-at-home Mom for several years before working at Sylvania Plant in Waldoboro, Tibbetts Industries in Camden and the Samoset Resort in Rockport.

Years later, Janice and Jim were winter snowbirds working at the Gasparilla Inn and Club in Boca Grande Florida for nearly 9 years.

They lived in several Rockport locations, before residing in their final home located next to their son and daughter-in-law, Sue. They have many cherished memories watching their granddaughters and great-grandchildren grow.

Janice loved her family with all her heart. She always enjoyed taking a ride with Jim whether to town or to her favorite restaurant Olive Garden in Augusta. She loved shopping, which was evident by her collection of clothing, shoes and purses.

Janice is predeceased by her parents, two sisters June Allen and twin sister, Janet Thibodeau and one brother, Malcolm Watts.

In addition to her husband of 64 years, she is survived by her son, Jim Jr. and his wife Sue of Rockport; granddaughters, Ashley Carleton of Rockport and Kayla Carleton Heal and her husband Travis of Rockland; and three great-grandchildren, Madison Shoudy, Emma and Colton Heal; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m, Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Burpee ,Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Social distancing will be observed. A graveside committal will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 4, 2020 at Seaview Cemetery in Rockport with Pastor David English officiating.
