Obituary for James Davidson Bazin
THOMASTON - James (Jim) Davidson Bazin passed away in the arms of the woman he loved on January 19, 2020, at the Sussman House in Rockport, ME.
Born on May 18, 1942 in Mt. Vernon, NY, he was the son of Albert and Mildred Bazin. Jim’s family moved to Bronxville, NY, where he attended Bronxville High School. Following high school, Jim worked and attended NYU Stern School of Business where he studied marketing and journalism and earned his business degree. He later earned a Master of Education degree from Cambridge College.
Jim was a Sgt. E5 in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, Jim worked in New York in Marketing and Product Management for Citicorp. Following his corporate business years, he moved over to the world of high tech, working for the MITRE Corporation, Scitex, Sybase, and Cyber Storage Systems.
As a fine art photographer, Jim spent several years showing his work in galleries in MA, CT, and ME. He always kept current on world affairs, and liked watching and discussing films, reading, working out, cooking and grilling.
Jim loved traveling out west, and always felt most at home in the beauty of Montana and Wyoming. He enjoyed his vacations there fly fishing, horseback riding, and being in the great expanse of nature. He spent time there shooting wildlife videos.
In the 80’s, Jim formed a rock band, JINX, which played and recorded in the Boston area. He loved those years of composing and playing music.
After a move to Maine, Jim became the Creative Director of Maine Food & Lifestyle magazine. Upon retirement, he returned to his great creative passion for photography, focusing on wildlife. During his last year of life, Jim produced an incredible body of work, culminating in several gorgeous group and solo arts shows and recognitions in the summer and fall of 2019. A special and lasting memory was the collaborative artwork created with his partner, Melanie.
A lover of all animals, Jim shared homes with several rescue cats over the years. He fell in love a few years ago while volunteer dog walking at the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County. His beloved American Bulldog Princess was his last great, loving, and loyal animal companion.
Predeceased by his mother, father, and special aunts and other family members, Jim is survived by his loving partner, Melanie Beckett of Thomaston, ME, and her son, Jacob Hyatt of Round Pond, ME. He also leaves behind a son, Alan Bazin.
