ISLESBORO - Jairus Miller, 38, took his own life Wednesday morning, May 15, 2019 on his family's Islesboro land, after years of battling depression and existential despair. Jairus was born January 23, 1981 in Camden, Maine, the son of Stephen and Elaine (Coombs) Miller.

Jair, as he was usually called, or Jay to some, was unusually intelligent. He graduated Valedictorian from Islesboro High School in 1998 and with high honors from Bowdoin College, class of '02. At various times he worked as a computer technician, landscaper, and electronic musician, composing hundreds of electronic music pieces for record labels around the world. Jairus had a special affinity for dogs and cats, and walked the Islesboro Islands Trust trails and shores frequently.

Jairus was pre-deceased by his mother Elaine. He is survived by his father, Stephen, of Islesboro; his brother Elek Miller; his sister-in-law Kimberley Dekker; his nephew Henry Miller; his Grandmother Miller; seven Aunts; eight Uncles; and Kimberley and Elek's dog Rider (who Jair loved very much).

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Jairus, a gifted musician and gentle soul with who I was in touch many years ago. I offer my sincere condolences to his family. As manager of a label music company, I would love to release a posthumous album which would pay homage to his great work as a musician. If one of his relatives is interested in such a project, please contact me at my mail address: Regards, Vassilis

I didn't know Jairus personally, but I certainly knew his music. Like Jairus, I'm an electronic musician and also a DJ, so I frequently received promos from the various record labels he released music upon.

I know the despair and pain of depression. I'm a long time sufferer as well.

My heart goes out to his family and friends. The electronic music world has an unfillable void in it now that Jairus is gone. He was a talent and his music will live on in his memory.

Jairus really was a unique, gifted, intelligent embodiment of consciousness. Perhaps that consciousness continues in an alternate universe.

Thank you. Music kept Jairus going for years. Music may well still enliven his essence.
