Obituary for Jack M. Temple
ROCKLAND – Jack M. Temple, 80, passed away on Christmas morning 2022 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, following a cardiac event.
Born in Springfield, Ohio, June 10, 1942, Jack joined the US Coast Guard at the age of 17. Through his time in the service, he served at many duty stations from Florida to Maine, and even traveled to Alaska on the Arctic Patrol ship, The Northwind, in 1969. After he retired from a life-long career in the USCG, Jack went on to spend his free time working as a mechanic for Shepherds before devoting his life caring for his wife when she became ill.
Jack was a family man, often referred to as “Papa” or “Papa Jack” by all who knew him, no matter if they were related or not. Over the years, his typical hangout spot would occasionally change but no matter if it was Dunkin, Tim Hortons, or McDonalds, Jack would be a regular getting his coffee and chatting up the locals. In the most recent years Jack invested in a Keurig to make coffee at home, with a stockpile of dark roast on hand to ensure he never ran out. He used to tell his grandchildren to never wash his coffee cup, because it “gave it flavor.” Jack always had his door open for anyone who might want to stop by for a cup of coffee and whatever treats he may have in his kitchen.
Jack was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Arlene Temple; his son Michael Temple; Daughter Marjorie Wooster, and great-granddaughter Harper Wallace. He is survived by his son, John Temple of Warren; grandchildren, Summer Temple, Isabella Temple both of Warren, Salina Powers and her husband Jon of Union, Chris Temple and his wife Kim of Rockland, Ryan Temple of Portland, and Jaime Temple; great-grandchildren Addison Lincoln, Destinee Lincoln, Sydne Wallace, Theodore Wallace, and Georgianna Powers.
Jack’s family will welcome friends and family for coffee and light refreshments at the Odd Fellows Hall in Warren, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, January 14, 2023, for those that would like to pay their respects and share memories of their time with Jack.
A small graveside service will be held privately in the Spring with Jack’s immediate family where he will be buried beside his wife.
