ROCKPORT – Herbert C. ‘Jack’ Wood Jr., 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast from lung cancer.
Born October 2, 1945 in Rockland to Herbert Carnes Wood Sr., and Dorothy Maxine (Chapman) Wood, he was educated in local schools and graduated from Georges Valley High School, Class of 1965.
At a young age, Jack, began his journey of starting his business by selling lobsters out of the back of his truck in Connecticut and New York. He continued to grow and expand his business over the years and was known as “Mr. Lobster”. He enjoyed the challenge of the lobster business along with painting, bowling, tennis, and his annual trips to Maui Hawaii.
Jack also enjoyed his AA family here in Maine and on Maui. He had been an AA member for 29 years and always wanted to be there for the newcomers so that he could encourage, and give them hope. Jack was famous for the saying “More meetings, more chances, fewer meetings, fewer chances, no meetings, no chances”.
Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his significant other for 26 years, Julia Henry of Rockport; his daughter Darcie Wood-Grant and her companion Ron Moulton of Warren; his grandchildren, Ashley Libby and her husband, Kevin, Craig Luce Jr., and his fiancé, Abby Johnson, Mandi Karl and her companion, Dylan Dorr, his great grandchildren, Adrianna Schultz-Luce, Ava Wentworth, Brock Libby, and Craig Luce III, his brothers, Steven Mahoney, and his wife, Robin, Richard Wood, and his wife, Cathy, Randy Wood, Jon Wood and Dr. Allison Faulkingham, Barry Wood, and his wife, Alexia, his sister Tess Holt and her husband, Andy, his special cousin, Kathryn Ilvonen, and her daughter Debbie Ayers, and her husband, Michael.
Family and Friends are invited to visit from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, May 6, 2022 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.

Jack will be laid to rest privately at Village Cemetery in Thomaston.
