Obituary for George Elbert Walker

ROCKLAND – George E. Walker, 96, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Wednesday July 2, 2020 at his home.

Born in Belfast, June 25, 1924 he was the son of George and Mable Harvey Walker. Enlisting in the U.S. Army, George served overseas in Africa, Europe and Italy during World War II. As part of an Amphibious Unit, he drove a Duck Boat before being honorably discharged.

Returning to his beloved hometown of Rockland, George returned to the workforce where he was employed for many years at F.J. O’Hara Company. A hard worker his entire life, George worked diligently to provide for his family.

His stoic Maine personality and big heart will be missed by all who loved him.

Predeceased by his wife, Myra Grey Walker; a son-in-law Wayne Steeves; a grandson Steven W. Steeves; and a step-son Kippy Roman; George is survived by his daughter, Carlene Steeves of Rockland; his step-sons, Bill Roman and his wife Jean of Rockland, Bud Roman and his wife Ingrid of Florida; many grandchildren, including, Darlene Gleba and her husband John of Owls Head, Shawna Steeves of Bridgewater, MA, Charla Prescott and her companion Harold Doak of Rockland; as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2020 at Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.
