Obituary for Gary Lee Soule

ROCKLAND – Gary Lee Soule, 67, of Rockland, Maine and Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side, Saturday, July 30, 2022. Gary fought a brave battle with cancer.

Gary was born December 4, 1954 to Erwin ‘Kip’ and Gloria Soule. He was a graduate of Mount Desert High School in Bar Harbor. He attended college at Eastern Maine Community College, graduating with an associate’s degree in Business Administration in 1976. He later pursued his dream of becoming a PGA Golf Professional.
Gary was one of Maine’s best known PGA golf professionals. He served as head professional at the Samoset Resort in Rockland for 17 years. Among his professional accomplishments are: two time winner of the NE Section Merchandiser of the year; seven time winner Maine Chapter Merchandiser of the year; 1988 Pro-Pro Stroke Play Champion with Greg Baker; former board member of the Maine Chapter NE PGA; Induction into the Maine Golf Hall of Fame in 2019; and instructor of over 5,000 golf lessons.

Gary taught the game of golf for over 40 years. He coached many men and women amateur champions as well as coaching high school champions. He was a passionate lover of the game and a great ambassador for Maine golf.

Predeceased by his father; Gary is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Rene Soule; and his beloved mother, Gloria Soule of West Palm Beach, FL.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Gary’s life from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Samoset Resort, Knox County Ball Room. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gary’s memory to the First Tee Golf Program.
