Obituary for Gary Alan Merrifield

WASHINGTON – Gary A. Merrifield, 68, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a sudden illness.

Gary was born on May 2, 1953 in Brunswick to Percy and Dorothy (Young) Merrifield.

Gary worked construction in his earlier years before going full time with what he really loved, making jewelry and collecting minerals. He made many pieces throughout his life that are owned by so many people all over the country.

He spent some time living in Florida, and loved it there. He loved the warmth, and the landscape. He also loved the guitar and played it most of his life.

Gary loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and everyone could hear him coming from a mile away! He always wore, and sported his leather jacket, unless the temperature got above 90°, then he'd go out in his leather vest.

He especially enjoyed hanging out at Archer's on the Pier in Rockland with his jewelry customers, and Archer’s employees. He loved, and was loved by all of the employees, and was a fixture at "his" bar stool. He made every girl a piece of jewelry including new employees, and also gave some motorcycle rides. For one of them it was her first time on a bike.

Predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Percy Merrifield Jr. He is survived by his older sister, Judy Brann and her husband Ron Brann of Cushing; His daughters, Heidi Overlock and her husband Matthew of Waldoboro; Jamie Wilson and her husband Scott of Union; Corey Merrifield and her fiancé Jay Merry of Smithfield; his son Jason Merrifield of Union; his 8 grandchildren, Kyle Melanson, Quinn Overlock, Haiden Alley, Alyssa Merrifield, Lily Merrifield, Scott Wilson II, AnnaBelle Merry and Jameson Merry.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on April 30, 2022 at none other than, Archer's on the Pier, 58 Ocean Street in Rockland.
