Obituary for Gary Frank Escorsio
UNION - Gary Escorsio, 66, died unexpectedly in Rockport, ME, on May 25, 2019. He will be remembered by those who loved him for his good humor and love of a good time.
Gary was born March 31, 1953 in Camden to John Herbert and Marianne Francis Prescott Escorsio. There, he enjoyed Sunday dinners at his grandmother “Mamie’s” house. He graduated a Rockland Tiger in 1971 from Rockland High School. His favorite thing to do while in high school was playing pool at the local pool hall with his friends. Proud of his Portuguese heritage, he lovingly carried on the family tradition of making Portuguese stuffing at Thanksgiving and always loved “vinegar fish.”
Gary was a social fellow, a member of the Boy Scouts, and was made a Master Masonic bother in Portland in May 1980. He was a hard worker who made friends wherever he worked. Gary was also known for being meticulously organized and always planned ahead. He often carried three jobs at a time, beginning as a dishwasher at the Village Restaurant in Camden for his uncle. He started his own lawn-care business, and held his longest-standing job with Central Maine Power (CMP) for 30 years on Cousin’s Island off the coast of Yarmouth, ME. After retiring from CMP in 2002, Gary had several jobs. He enjoyed working as Plant Manager at Windward Gardens, especially working closely with the Administrator, housekeeping, and laundry staff.
Hardworking as he was, he loved spending time with his friends and made a special point of maintaining his relationships from his high school years. People noticed Gary’s gregarious nature and his remarkable memory for details about their lives. He was a passionate person who loved his surviving wife deeply, whom he met in 2004 and married in 2008. Gary and his wife were together for 15 years, 10 and a half of which they were married. Gary is survived by his wife, children, sister and family, cousins, and many grandchildren.
Gary delighted in listening to music and dancing, and going on fishing trips up north. He also always looked forward to meeting up with friends on Friday nights at Cuzzy’s. He appreciated the finer things in life and welcomed opportunities to learn. Gary also loved cooking, caring for his lawn and garden, and then sitting back enjoying the view from his porch with his wife and cat. Known as “Grandpa,” Gary also loved laughing and spending time with his grandchildren. A longtime cat-lover, Gary always had a cat in his life.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Mountain View Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, PO Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
