Obituary for Frances Knight

LINCOLNVILLE - Frances Adeline Hastings Knight, 91, passed away December 31, 2022 due to natural causes, surrounded by family in the home she built with her husband and raised her three sons.

She was born January 17, 1931 in Camden, to Stirling W. Sr. and Doris Robinson Hastings. Frances grew up attending Camden Schools and worked at the family store, Hastings News Stand, selling penny candy and newspapers. Later she worked as a CNA/CMA at Camden Hospital, Mountain Street Nursing Home and private duty home care, with ASK, until her retirement due to her health at age 78.

Frances found so much joy throughout her life in arts and crafts, tole painting, ceramics, needle point and many other things. She also cherished the time with her mother, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to these things, Frances also loved bowling, taking her grandkids to Fun Town, shopping, her beloved Shar-pei’s, family gatherings and decorating for the holidays. She was very fond of the many adventures had with her dearest friend, Linda, especially those made on their cruise to the Bahamas. The family lake house, which is special to many, was one of her favorite places to be. A woman of a certain era, she would give this advice to the girls: “ Your house is your calling card, it must always be neat and tidy, as should your hair, your cheeks and lips. A little color—but not too much! And its hell to get old.”

Frances had many accomplishments, interests, loves, involvements and family in her life. A wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, aunt, and cousin. Many have passed before and many remain.

Predeceased by her husband, Gilbert “Gil” Hutchins Knight, Sr.; her son Gilbert “Gibby” Hastings Knight, Jr. and his wife Carolyn Graves Knight, their son and her grandson, Adam Michael Knight; and her dearest friend Linda Strout; Frances is survived by her sons, Keryn William Knight, Glenn Francis Knight; granddaughter Lori Beth Knight and her partner Francis Richardson; great-grandchildren, Lydia Adeline Knight, Layna Ashlynn Knight, Makayla Ann Christchensen Knight, Liam Azure Knight, Logan Ambrose Knight, and Elizabeth Jean Dyer as well as many extended family, nieces and nephews.

Frances’ family has chosen to remember her life private.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
