Obituary for Eugene "Gene" Wiggin
OWLS HEAD - Eugene ‘Gene’ William Wiggin, 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the Sussman House in Rockport.
A lifelong resident of Maine, Gene was born in South Thomaston, on August 12, 1936, the son of LeRoy and Nelly Steiof Wiggin. He was educated in the local schools, attending the one-room schoolhouse in South Thomaston and graduated from Rockland District High School.
He met the love of his life, Jean Howard, and they were married in Rockland on August 15, 1964. They raised their two sons, Bill and Steven in Rockland. Gene and his wife moved to Owls Head in 1992.
Gene worked in the family business and later ventured out on his own until he retired in 2010. Gene played piano in numerous bands and volunteered at area nursing homes. He and his wife traveled frequently and were especially passionate about their gardens. They also cherished the time they spent with their granddaughter, Kimberly. Gene and his wife were lifelong members of the Rockland Congregational Church and belonged to the Penobscot View Grange. When his wife became seriously ill in 2010, he cared for her full-time until her passing in 2012.
Gene was predeceased by his parents and wife Jean; sisters, Marjorie, Victoria, and Idabelle; and brother, Harold. He is survived by his sons, Bill Wiggin, Steven Wiggin and his wife Amy; a granddaughter Kimberly; sister Ava; several nephews and nieces, and a special friend Roberta Tibbetts.
