Obituary for Elizabeth Church (Wendelaar)

DAMARISCOTTA – Elizabeth Church, 90, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on December 20, 2022, at Coves Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta.

Elizabeth was born in Midland Park, New Jersey on August 15, 1932, she was the daughter of Garrett and Gerdina Stonebrink Van Der Heide. Elizabeth graduated from Midland Park High School in 1950.

Elizabeth was blessed with two loves in her life. She was first married in 1952 to Mr. Ralph Wendelaar in Midland Park. Together they enjoyed to travel and had the opportunity to see most of the country. Ralph passed away in 1983. Several years after Ralph’s passing her heart was full again when she married Carrol Church in Rockland on May 29, 1987. They both were very active with the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Together they would travel around town to find the best flea markets and yard sales. Elizabeth loved bargaining for the best possible price.

Known for her talent of crafting and quilting. She led a quilting group for many years and did everything the old fashion way, by hand. She enjoyed her time playing the organ at church on Sundays and loved shopping and antiquing.

Elizabeth is survived by her brother-in-law, Rin Voorman and wife Lois; nephews, Brian Voorman and wife Lisa, Stephen Voorman; Nieces, Leah Christensen and husband Dave, Janet Geerdes and husband Gregg, Susan DeRouw and her husband Marcel; a very close friend Sharon and Jeff Brow of Warren.

Friends are invited to join the family at a graveside memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on May 9, 2023 at the Ocean View Cemetery in South Thomaston.
