Obituary for Elinor Alberta Barnes

ROCKLAND – Elinor Alberta Barnes, 92, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 7, 2020 at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.
Born in Rockland, October 2, 1927 to Alton and Helen (Wade) Young, she was educated in local schools.
As a young girl she courted Raymond Barnes who would often visit his grandfather’s farm in Spruce Head. The two of them would correspond while Ray served his country and they were married in Rockland on October 18, 1947.
It was in Rockland where Ray and Elinor built their home on Dunton Ave., raised their children, lived all of their 66 years together.
Throughout her life Elinor was primarily a homemaker, but did work for some time at the former VanBaalens.
Her children state that along with being active in their lives, she always kept an immaculate house and was known to spend countless hours caring for her family and her home.
She loved to garden and can vegetables which she shared with friends and family.
Predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, Ray, two brothers, Bill and Raymond Young, and her sister Marguerite; she is survived by her sons, James Barnes and his wife Linda of St. George, Douglas Barnes of Rockland; her daughters, Nancy Russell and her spouse Beth of Seal Harbor, Jean Stairs of Warren, and Susan Stein and her husband Jay of Camden; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
Elinor will be laid to rest next to her husband during a graveside service at 2:00 pm, Monday, June 1, 2020, at Ocean View Cemetery in South Thomaston.
