Obituary for Edward John Moran
Edward John Moran, 73, died peacefully on September 22, 2020 surrounded by family in his slice of heaven on earth - with a view of Coleman Pond in the cottage he built with his Dad in Lincolnville, Maine.
Ed was born on May 7,1947 in Everett, Massachusetts to Richard and Dorothy (Scoppa) Moran. He grew up spending summers fishing and swimming at the family cottages in Maine. He graduated from Everett High School in 1965, and Lowell Technological Institute (UMass Lowell) in 1969 with an engineering degree. While in Lowell, he met his lifelong love, Doris Masson, whom he married January 26, 1969.
After college, Ed worked for Newport News in Virginia on construction of the USS
Nimitz. Construction of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant brought him to Madison, Ohio in 1978 where he worked until 1994. From there, he began working at National Engineering in Strongsville, Ohio until 2002. He then retired and moved to Maine as the owner of the Hideaway Diner in Northport where he could be found baking the bread and biscuits and catering the Hideaway Cafe at Andrews and Andrews Auctions. He also spent 2 years as Selectman for the town of Northport from 2004-2006.
During his time in Ohio, Ed was very active in the community. He was president of the Madison Soccer League for many years while also coaching in the Recreation and Travel programs. He was president for two of the British Soccer Tour programs and served as coach for one of the teams. He was involved in helping to raise funds to create the girls’ soccer program at Madison High School. He was also an assistant boys’ soccer coach for Madison High School. He served as a representative from Madison Soccer League on the Madison Joint Recreation Board.
Ed was preceded in heaven by his parents Richard and Dorothy Moran and his brother Ronald Moran.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 51years, Doris Moran; his proudest accomplishments - his children - John Moran and his partner Sarah Falvey of Bucksport, ME; Kelli Moran of Madison, OH; Natalie Hanson and her husband Jason of Saybrook, OH; James Moran and his wife Heather of Madison, OH; Peter Moran and his wife Mary Hilliard of Winston-Salem, NC; his cherished grandchildren Mackenzie, Meaghan, Matthew, Emily, Alexander, Julia, Edward, Gloria, and Hudson; his loving sister Denise Marchessault and her husband Larry of Everett, MA; Ronald’s wife Kim Moran of Lincolnville, ME; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much.
He enjoyed spoiling his Granddogs Daisy, Sam, Maggie, and Teela.
