Obituary for Edward Charles Barrett

WARREN - Edward C. Barrett, 96, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, Friday, September 25, 2020.

Born in Mars Hill, September 17, 1924 he was the son of Dennison and Edna Hannington Barrett. In Ed’s early teens he and his family moved to Warren where he was educated, graduating from Warren High School in 1943.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps in the fall of 1943 and was sent to the Pacific Theater for three years before being Honorably Discharged.

Returning to the States, Ed met Nancy Charlotte Libby at a dance at the Grange Hall. The pair were married October 4, 1947. Together they made their first home at the Cutting Farm in South Warren, owned by Edward C. Cutting. There Ed worked as a herdsman and farm manager.

In 1958 Ed built his home for his family in Warren. He later moved on to the work for the Maine State Prison, serving as the Farm Superintendent for many years. Ed retired from the prison in 1986.

Ed and Nancy enjoyed taking their RV on trips, especially local fairs. They especially enjoyed attending the Fryeburg Fair where cattle judging and horse shows were a favorite pastime. They both had a special place in their hearts for animals.

Ed was known as a fine craftsmen and woodworker. He often made furniture and toys for his grandchildren. Making trucks and old wagons, reminiscent of his childhood toys, was something he greatly enjoyed. His work earned him many blue ribbons from local fairs.

Ed was a member of the Warren Lodge of Masons, and was very proud to have received his 50 year pin. He and Nancy were active members of the Second Congregational Church of Warren. Together they enjoyed the ‘couples club’ hosted at the church. The church fund-raising, musical talent show complete with homemade costumes, ticket sales and local advertising was a favorite event for many years. Ed and Nancy enjoyed 71 wonderful years together.
