Obituary for Dorothy "Dottie" Marchant
CAMDEN – Dorothy H. ‘Dottie’ Marchant, 92, passed peacefully Sunday, July 3, 2022 after a period of declining health at the Sussman House in Rockport.
Born in Old Town, March 24, 1930, she was one of 10 children born to Emile and Rose Duplise Ouellette.
Dottie happily made her home in the Rockland and Camden area after graduating from John Bapst High School in Bangor. She married Frederick “Fred” Marchant in Rockland October 30, 1954. She built a career as an International Sales Representative, working for Sylvania, G.T.E and later Verizon.
In their younger years Dot and Fred enjoyed boating with their friends, often staying overnight on their boat in Penobscot Bay. Dorothy enjoyed going to bingo, playing cards and making trips to Foxwoods. After retiring, she and Fred spent winters in Lakeland, Florida. Dorothy was a happy person who lit up the room when she walked in. She loved to be around others and they loved to be around her, always feeling welcome.
Dottie was predeceased by her husband, Fred Marchant, and all nine of her siblings. She is survived by her special sister-in-law, Audrey Marchant of South Thomaston; a step-daughter Cheryl Marchant of Fairfax, VA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger and Davetta Marchant of Montana; Charles Ortham of Tulsa, OK, Carol Pivnick of Granada Hills, CA; as well as her special friends, Eunice Bouchard, Peachie Marshall and Molly Malcolm; many nieces and nephews including, Ken and Gail Dostie, Richard and Glenny Willette, Vic and Cil Buckland and George and Kat Curtis. She is also survived by her extended family, Wanda Lassiter, who was her loving caregiver, Michael and Wendy Brown, and their children, Travis, Mckenzie and Caitlin, and grandchildren Madden and Beckham.
A celebration of Dottie’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. For those unable to attend in person, a live-stream of the service will be available on her Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com then ‘Photos and Videos’, then Watch Webcast. Memories and condolences may be shared at that same website. Dottie will be laid to rest privately beside her husband at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
