Obituary for Colette A. Mathieson

OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Colette Ann Kavanagh Mathieson, 71, passed away at her home on Oct. 18, 2022.
She was born in Rockland on Nov. 21, 1950, the daughter of Ernest and Alice Kavanagh, Sr. She was educated in Rockland’s schools. Upon her mother’s early passing, Colette became the caregiver to her siblings. She worked very hard helping to provide for her four brothers and sisters. So, when it came time to start her family, she became the best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother every child could wish for. She was all about family and cherished every moment.

Colette was the matriarch of a very large family. She enjoyed trying to solve all our problems and make everything better. It doesn’t matter if you were family or not, you always had an ear to talk to. The holidays were her favorite time of year, and she enjoyed being with her family and spoiling her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Colette was such a giver, she made sure all of us had the very best of holidays. In her spare time, Colette loved shopping, sewing and scrapbooking.

Colette served as the administrative assistant to the Scarborough town manager for 15 years, and also helped with the Wellness Program. She also worked 19 years for Scarborough community services. Colette touched so many families over the 19 years through athletic programs, winter carnival, summer camps, and more.

Colette was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Kevin Kavanagh; and a sister, Marie Kavanagh.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Mathieson, Sr. of Old Orchard Beach; a son, James Mathieson, Jr. of Cornish; a daughter, Alicia Perry and her husband Marshall of South Thomaston; brothers John Kavanagh and his wife Theresa of Owls Head and Ernest Kavanagh Jr. of Rockland; sisters Theresa Kavanagh of Rockland and Kim Young and her husband Christopher of Owls Head; five grandchildren starting with her firstborn grandchild Jasmin Perry, Samantha Perry, Stephanie Ames, Lieb Mathieson and Max Mathieson; and her 8 great-grandchildren, Eli Billings, Emery Billings, Bella Billings, Carter Billings, Farrah Gushee, Grady Hamilton, Leah Ames and Luke Ames.

Visiting hours were held on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. at Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, at Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.

Memorial donations may be made in Colette’s honor to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 13770 Noel Road, Suite 801889, Dallas TX 75380
