Obituary for Charlotte Ann Billings

ROCKLAND – Charlotte A. Billings, 75, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Pen Bay Medical Center.

Born in Rockland January 20, 1945, she was the daughter of Ralph and A. Louise Moulaison Billings. Educated locally, she attended Rockland schools.

Born with a rare chromosomal deficiency, Charlotte’s parents were told she wouldn’t live a full life. She had other plans!

As a young woman Charlotte assisted Erma Anderson at her nursery school. She was the consummate babysitter and loved being with children. She loved nothing more than watching her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church for many years and together with her parents, served faithfully at the Soup Kitchen there. Her sister remembered Charlotte had a great sense of humor, and even sometime got giggling during church. She enjoyed her time with the Emblem Club and participating in various charitable and civic events.

Charlotte loved music and was a long-time fan of the ‘Lennon Sisters’ whom she watched on the Lawrence Welk Show. Over the years she created many beautiful scrapbooks with their memorabilia, including several prized autographed photos.

She was never one to be idle and always kept busy around the house, ‘puttering’ and doing house work. She could always find something to do. She always thought of others above herself and never forgot a birthday. Sending cards to family near and far was one of her specialties.

Her generous spirit, sweet disposition and contagious smile will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Predeceased by her parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Gwendolyn Billings; Charlotte is survived by her siblings, Russell Billings and his wife Barbara of Woolwich, Fay Molloy and her husband Thomas of Rockland, Thomas Billings of Rockland, Jack Billings and his companion Christine Merritt of Rockland; as well as many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2020 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway, Rockland. Interment will be held in the spring at St. James Cemetery, Thomaston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bernard’s Soup Kitchen, c/o St. Brendan the Navigator Parish, 7 Union Street, Camden, ME 04843, or The Rockland Emblem Club, P.O. Box 104, Rockland, Maine 04841.
