ROCKPORT – Charles “Charlie” Salminen, 79, passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, with his family by his side at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Rockland, May 15, 1943, he was the son of Arnold and Louise Fields Salminen. Charlie attended local schools in the Rockland area until joining the Army. After the Army, he went on to further his education at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, the University of Maine at Farmington, and the University of Maine at Orono.

Charlie started his career at Sears, eventually becoming the Manager of the automotive department until his first retirement. He and his wife Peggy, then purchased the Rockland Roller Skating Rink. They enjoyed hosting fun events and he was known to attempt the limbo and hokey pokey on occasion. He ultimately, finished his working career at the Department of Health and Human Services with his second retirement in 2013.

He loved to watch and play sports, especially the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. He enjoyed a good meal at local restaurants including; Chez Michel, Moody’s, The Helm, and Bullwinkle’s just to name a few. He would always order a coffee, water, and a beer when possible. Charlie loved lobster. He enjoyed his 1986 red Chrysler convertible, just driving aimlessly around town listening to music. He enjoyed going swimming in the ocean whether it was Glen Cove or Old Orchard Beach.

Other than his father and mother, Charlie was predeceased by his brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Kelley. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Peggy; his daughter, Kelly and her husband Chris of Manchester, ME.; sister, Yvonne Kelley and her four daughters, Debbie Trail, Cindy Sexton, Kim Jones, and Brenda Clickner.

The family would like to thank the Sussman House for their great care in Charlie’s final days. Additionally, they would like to thank all the previous Sears employees & coworkers for their support though-out the years.
