Obituary for Carol Jane "Mickey" Winpenny

ROCKLAND - Carol Jane “Mickey” Michael Winpenny, 86, passed away comfortably and peacefully at Sussman House on Sunday, September 18, 2022.

Born on December 26, 1935 in Drexel Hill Pennsylvania to Ellsworth Lorenzo and Francis (Faissler) Michael, she was the oldest of three girls.

Mickey grew up in Pennsylvania and attended local schools. She graduated from Penn State where she met and married James Bolton Winpenny, III. She went on to have three sons which she raised on her own. She taught them to enjoy rainy days, nature and the golden rule.

Mickey moved to Maine in 2015 to enjoy the beauty of Maine’s Midcoast. Mickey, “Granny” was a fixture at local sporting events for years for her two grandsons, Zachary Winpenny (2020) and Aiden Abbotoni. You could always count on seeing her on the sidelines with chocolate in hand, a big smile on her face, ready to point out Zak with his telltale mane. She thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the community. She was an avid walker for years and would be routinely spotted in Owls Head, Thomaston, and Rockport enjoying nature.

Predeceased by her grandson Zachary in 2020, and a brother-in-law Dr. Richard Whittaker; she is survived by her sons, Michael Winpenny and his wife Kathy of Lititz, Pennsylvania, Bolton and his husband Jamie of Sebring, Florida, Charles O’Loughlin Winpenny of Rockland; sisters, Elinor (Dick) Shenk of Washington State, Peggy Whittaker of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; grandsons, Taylor, Alec, and Aiden who fondly calls her “Grandma Mickey”; and myriad nieces and nephews scattered from Seattle to Ireland.

At Mickey’s request there will be no service. Her ashes will be joining her mother and father in the grove by the stream and the shack on her family's farm in Illinois. Mickey stopped making memories, but often reminisced about her lifelong friends especially, PeggyAnn and Ruthie, and never failed to mention Daddy.

Arrangemnts are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street Rockland.
