Obituary for Beverly Patten

ROCKLAND – Beverly L. Patten, 89, former longtime Camden resident, died peacefully, Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.

Born in Camden, December 8, 1930, she was the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Clifford Hooper.

Educated locally, Beverly was a 1948 graduate of Camden High School. In that whirlwind of a year, Beverly, a natural beauty, was crowned Camden Snow Bowl Queen, and on September 18, married her best friend and love of her life, Stanley Howard Patten.

Together Beverly and Stanley made their home in Camden before moving to Nebraska for a short time. They eventually returned to their hometown of Camden, where they resided their entire married life. The couple resided on Rawson Avenue in a home they loved for over 10 years. While raising her family, Beverly worked for many years at the Village Restaurant. Later she was known as the local Avon Lady, working as a sales representative for over 36 years. Beverly was a fantastic sales woman, and was a member of the ‘Presidents Club’ each year.

Spending time with her beloved husband was Beverly’s favorite pastime. Together they enjoyed walking to Main Street in Camden for breakfast, frequenting Mariner’s, Fitzpatrick’s and Boynton-McKay. They never missed a Saturday trip to Bangor for some light shopping and lunch. Even when Mr. Patten could no longer drive, the pair were content to go along with their daughter, Fonda. They also enjoyed finding bargains at local yard sales whenever possible.

Beverly was an avid reader, reading hundreds of romance novels over the years. She was also an accomplished crafter, making each one of her children a beautiful ‘Cathedral Afghan’.

She was a caregiver at heart, and loved her family deeply. She diligently cared for both of her parents as they aged, and loved having her brother over for lunch every Sunday. She spared nothing, always making a roast chicken with all the fixings, yeast rolls and dessert. Her children said she taught them how to care for the older generations and always be there for others.

Beverly will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her husband Stanley Patten in 2011; her brother Richard Hooper; her beloved daughter Frances Bodman; two sons-in-law, Alan Bodman, Lonnie Griffin, Jr.; and a grandson Timothy Woods; Beverly is survived by her children, Melody Dugan and her husband John, Fonda Woodman and her husband Doug, Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Bean and her husband Jeffrey all of Warren; David Patten and his wife Tammy of Appleton; her grandchildren, Lisa, Steve, Shawn, Fawn, Megan, Matthew, Jed, Tim and Michelle; her great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Steven, Braden, Christina, Elle, Creed, Lonnie, Savana, Marina, Alexandria, Austin, Cole, Ryder, Hunter, Lilly, Mordecai, Joshua, James, Jenifer, Noah, Jayden, Elisha; her great-great-grandchildren, Eli, Matthew, Alivia, Cole, Brailey, and Saylor; well as her sister, Marilyn Hooper of Rockland.
