ROCKLAND - Barbara C. Gerry, 84, passed away February 18, 2022, at the Knox Center, after a long illness.

Born in Waterville, Maine, December 10, 1937, she was the daughter of Helen and Herman Clapprood.

After Barbara graduated from Waterville High School, she went on to obtain her Practical Nursing License from Maine School of Nursing Sisters Hospital, Waterville in 1958. During her clinical time at the infirmary at Colby College, she met her future husband Paul L Gerry. They married in April 1960 and settled in the Town of Rockland. Barbara and Paul went on to have four beautiful children: Scott, Dawn, Sharon and Matthew. Barbara took that nursing knowledge and became of the best pediatric nurse for over 40yrs at Knox General Hospital and Pen Bay Medical Center. After retiring in 2000, she went on to help others as a private nurse.

Paul and Barbara purchased a camp in 1970 on North Pond. This was their happy place and summers were spent fishing, boating, swimming and just hanging on the “Hill”. Camp was very special to Barbara and as soon as school was out for the summer, bags were packed, pets and kids were gathered and the 20-minute ride to North Pond commenced. Her love for this special place has been passed down and she will have a special stone placed there so we can still have the conversations on the “Hill”. She loved her special neighbor on the Pond, Sydney Plum and all the times spent watching the eagles and loons. She also loved watching the alewives when they came in the spring, and she never missed the loon count.

Barbara was a very active member of the Rockland Congregational Church.

Other than her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her sister Louise Frewin; two sons, (infant) Matthew Gerry, Scott S. Gerry; her beloved dogs Holly and Jo-Jo and cats Tommy and Sunny. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Paul L. Gerry of Rockland; daughters, Dawn L. Pelletier with son-in-law, Stephen M. Pelletier of Windham, Sharon E. Jordan with son-in law Dr. Jeffery Jordan of Camden; daughter-in-law, Vicky Gerry of Rockland; her most precious grandchildren, Meagan, Paul, Kyle, Matthew, Johnathan, Blaklee and Sam; her great-grandchildren, Mia, Colin, Reagan and Brynn; and her younger sister, Nancy McKenzie, who sent her a card every day during her battle with Alzheimer’s.

The family would also like to personally thank the wonderful staff at Quarry Hill and The Knox Center for Long Term Care. We are forever grateful for their kindness and dedication.

Barbara loved life. Barbara loved her neighbors, especially Cindy White and her dog Zoey. Barbara loved her family.

A celebration of life will take place at 11:00am, June 3, 2022, at the Achorn Cemetery, Rockland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
