Obituary for Anthony Gilmore Hill

WARREN - Anthony G. Hill, 66, went home to his Lord suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

Born in Rockland, on October 21, 1953 with his twin brother Timothy, he was the son of Niilo and Elizabeth Oxton Hill. One of eight boys, Anthony was raised on the farm on the Niilo Hill Road in Warren and was a graduate of Medomak Valley High School.

In 1979, Anthony married the love of his life, Judith Williams. At that time, Anthony became an immediate father to four young children. While things weren’t always easy, Anthony never wavered from his commitment to his children and treated them all very special. He could always be counted on to provide them love, guidance and support even as they grew into adults.

Anthony was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and friend. He was a humble, quiet and caring man who worked hard to care for his wife Judy through her health challenges and until her passing in 2008.
Anthony was also committed to his work. In his younger years, he worked alongside his father cutting Pulp wood until he started his career at Bath Iron Works, working 42 years. He was looking forward to his retirement on July 31st this year.

Anthony loved spending time with his family. Almost daily trips for coffee on Crystal Pond with his son Bob, pulling weeds at The Haynes Farm with his daughter Laurie, a ride to Belmont for a haircut from his daughter Holly or enjoying a plate of Chocolate Chip Cookies with his daughter Billie-Jo, were all special times for Ant and his children. He enjoyed spending holidays with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he always carried a bag of dog biscuits in his pocket for his canine grandchildren and they anxiously awaited his visits. “Grampy’s here” would make tails wag and grown dogs cry in anticipation.

Anthony had a soft spot for animals, especially his dogs Kibbles, Molly and Ellie that pre-deceased him.
Anthony was pre-deceased by his parents, wife Judy, brother Teddy, grandson Justin Johnson and great-grandson Austin Johnson.

Anthony is survived by his brothers, Ivan Hill and wife Polly of Friendship, Norman Hill and his wife Diane of Friendship, Rodney Hill and his wife Jeanne of Bangor, Daryl Hill of Warren, Timothy Hill of Rockland, and Edward Hill of Warren; a sister in-law Brenda Hill of Warren. In addition, he is survived by his son Robert Hannan and wife Michelle of Rockport; his daughters, Laurie Haynes and her husband Brian of Cushing, Holly Wellman and her husband Ron of Belmont and Billie-Jo Leo and her husband Tony of Thomaston. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Sanchez and her husband Darren of Palermo, Jessie Lee of Washington, Frankie Johnson and his wife Jessie of Friendship, Sean Goodine of Thomaston and Cassie Goodine of Richmond; his great-grandchildren, Victory, Krista and Abel Sanchez, Elijah and Kadence Johnson; and his canine grandchildren, Harley, Baylee, Bubba, Rudy, Roxy and Riggs.

A private family graveside service will be held at Sawyer Cemetery, Stirling Road, Warren.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
