Obituary for Anne Kilham

Anne Kilham, 83, noted artist, died peacefully in the warmth of her home and love of her son and caregivers, Wednesday, March 3, 2021.

Born in Santa Fe, NM in 1937, Anne grew up on a farm in eastern Massachusetts. She came from a family of creative people: artists, architects, engineers and inventors. Anne attended Colorado College for nursing but ended up “majoring” in mountain climbing. She also attended Putney School (VT) and Rhode Island School of Design.

Rockport Maine has been home for Anne Kilham since 1972. She started her business with handprinted block print notes and postcards that she sold by retail mail order and to local shops. Eventually she moved on to watercolors that capture images of the coast and the islands, inland mountains or lakes, and of course flower gardens. Over the years she has been active in town affairs serving on various committees including Conservation, Comprehensive Plan and others. Anne has been honored by the town for her contributions including providing the cover art for the annual Town Report for several years. In 2008 she was honored with the title Artist Laureate for the Town of Rockport.

Anne is survived by her sons, Nik DeMaria of Warren, Scott Garman of Dresden and daughter Annie of Dover NH, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Lawrence of Santa Fe, NM and sister Susan of Memphis, TN.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her wonderful caregivers and MaineHealth Hospice of the past few months that allowed her to remain in the home she loved so much. In particular, Tiffany & Patty brought comfort, care and companionship that cannot be measured…..thank you.

If you would like to make a gift to honor Anne, please consider supporting Aldermere Farms, Georges River Land Trust and the Rockport Library.

A reception and remembrance of Anne will be announced and held at a later time. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland. To share a memory or story with Anne’s family, please visit their online Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
