Obituary for Andrew Duane Benner

ST. GEORGE – Andrew Duane Benner, 68, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 while in the Intensive Care Unit at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Andrew’s wife, Catherine “Kitzi” Benner was at his side.

Born December 26, 1951 in Rockland, at the former Knox Hospital, to Lloyd and Gertrude (Breen) Benner, he lived most of his life in St. George and Cushing, was educated in local schools, and was a graduate of the former Georges Valley High School, class of 1970.

Following High School, Andrew enlisted in the United States Army and served in Berlin Germany during the Viet Nam War.

Andrew, always a busy, outdoorsman, was an avid fisherman, hunter, syrup maker, commercial fisherman, and clammer. He was also a licensed meat cutter, and worked as an oil delivery man, depending on the time of year.

Always an optimistic person, following his diagnosis of Glioblastoma, his favorite saying was “Don’t worry, it’s all in my head”, and when things looked bleak, he would often say “It is what it is”.

Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Catherine “Kitzi” Benner of St. George; his sons, Morgan B. Benner of Marblehead MA; Kristopher L. Benner and his Fiancée Morgan A. Cornelison of Washington DC; His brothers, Alan L. Benner and Thurin G. Benner, both of St. George.
