Obituary for Alton S. Hilchey

SOUTH THOMASTON - Alton S. Hilchey, 71, died at his home, after a period of declining health. Born in Rockland, May 16, 1951, he was the son of Gerald L. and Laura M. (Sedgwick) Hilchey.

Alton grew up in Maine and graduated from Rockland District High School. He attended Andover Business College.

Alton worked at Martin Marietta, owned and operated Echo Hill in St. George, and later worked as the Manager for Harlan Black Construction in Tenants Harbor. He was the former Sexton of the Seaside Cemetery.

He enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics and restoring his antique car.

Other than his parents Alton was predeceased by his brother Gerald Hilchey, Jr. and his mother-in-law Charlene Black this past Sunday. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth B. Hilchey; his 3 children, Garret Hilchey and his wife Valerie, Sarah Hilchey of St. George and Tim Black and his wife Aliesha of Pittston; two brothers Clifford Hilchey and his wife Diana and Craig Hilchey all of South Thomaston; sister Rhonda Nordstrom and her husband Robert of Spruce Head; sister-in-law Florence Hilchey of Lebanon, Oregon; his grandchildren Parker and Spencer Hilchey, Etta Cormier, Theodore and Elsie Black; many nieces and nephews, and Mikey, his black lab, who never left his side.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at the Tenants Harbor Baptist Church. Pastor Bill Hickey will officiate. Spring interment will be at Seaside Cemetery, Tenants Harbor. Services are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland.
